Sylvia Acevedo's new memoir, Path to the Stars: My Journey from Girl Scout to Rocket Scientist, relays the importance of persistence, hard work, and never losing sight of your dreams. Her visit at Bailey Middle School, with almost 500 students, parents, and local Girl Scouts, shared this wisdom through stories of her childhood, attending Stanford, working at NASA, and becoming the CEO of the Girl Scouts.

Acevedo also spoke to the importance of having books available that show the strength of girls and women and their ability to achieve anything they want to achieve. All in all, it was an inspirational visit with a rocket scientist, author, and business executive who has broken through many glass ceilings!

"I never miss a layup."

Have you ever met a rocket scientist? Me neither! I am so excited to welcome a rocket scientist AND author to our library next week! It is our first author visit of the year, and it promises to be an amazing one. I just finished reading Sylvia Acevedo's memoir Path to the Stars: My Journey from Girl Scout to Rocket Scientist, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This author visit has given us the opportunity to build connections with others in the community, too! We have worked with a local girl scout organization to make this event accessible to other young people, so Ms. Acevedo will reach many young minds as a result of her visit to the Bailey Library!
